Structure

Laterally, it is attached to the muscular borders as well as the ischiopubic rami. It extends posteriorly as far as the perineal membrane. Anteriorly, it blends with the inferior edge of the rectus sheath as well as the suspensory ligament of the clitoris in females and the penis in males.

Function

It confers strength by binding the superficial perineal muscles and provides an attachment point to the root of the clitoris in females and the penis in males.
