Structure
There is a thin capsule of connective tissue surrounding the thyroid gland, located below the pretracheal fascia. It has septa that extend into the glandular parenchyma creating division between lobules.
Anatomical Relations
The fibrous capsule of the thyroid gland is found superficial to the glandular tissue of the thyroid gland and deep to the pretracheal fascia.
Function
The fibrous capsule of the thyroid gland protects the thyroid gland and its associated neurovasculature.
