Structure
The flexor retinaculum of the ankle is a strong band of fibers that extends from the medial malleolus of the tibia to the calcaneus.
Anatomical Relations
The tendons of the tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum, and flexor hallucis muscles, as well as the posterior tibial vessels and tibial nerve, pass deep to the flexor retinaculum of the ankle.
Function
The flexor retinaculum of the ankle retains the tendons of the tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum, and flexor hallucis muscles in place, thus, preventing subluxation.
