Anatomical Relations

The Iliopubic tract is a thickened, inferior band of the transversalis fascia. It lies deep to the inguinal ligament and runs parallel to it. The femoral nerve and lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh run deep to the iliopubic tract and inguinal ligament on their inferior course into the anterior thigh.

Structure

The iliopubic tract is made up of transverse fibers that fan out laterally towards the anterior superior iliac spine to blend with the iliopsoas fascia and the conjoint tendon medially.

Function

The iliopubic tract forms the floor of the lateral third of the inguinal canal. It also forms the anterior part of the femoral sheath.
