Structure

Cleland’s and Grayson’s ligaments are components of the distal fascial complex. This superficial fascia of the digits contains both fibrous and adipose tissue in both palmar and dorsal aspects. The lateral condensations of the fascia forms the lateral digital sheets.

Function

Both Cleland’s and Grayson’s ligaments hold the skin of the finger in place during flexion and extension of the interphalangeal joints (Chrysopoulo et al., 2002).
