Structure

In males, the membranous layer of superficial fascia of the perineum is continuous with the Dartos fascia of scrotum. In females, it has the same boundaries but is not as far-reaching in the labia majora and is continuous with the lower abdominal wall fascia, namely Scarpa’s fascia (or membranous layer of superficial fascia of abdomen) (Standring, 2016).

Function

It supports the superficial structures of the perineum.
