Structure
The superior fibular retinaculum is a broad, transverse band that extends from the lateral malleolus of the fibula to the lateral aspect of the calcaneus. It demarcates the distal end of the lateral compartment of the leg.
Anatomical Relations
The tendons of the fibularis longus and brevis muscles, as well as the fibular artery and veins pass deep to the superior fibular retinaculum.
Function
The superior fibular retinaculum holds the tendons of the fibularis longus and brevis in place and prevents subluxation of the tendons.
