Anatomical Relations
The umbilical fascia surrounds the umbilical ring and sits between the transversalis fascia and the peritoneum.
Structure
It extends laterally from the umbilicus along the width of the medial umbilical ligaments. It continues inferiorly as far as the urinary bladder. It is continuous with the fascia surrounding the bladder in the retropubic space.
Function
Umbilical fascia helps support the anterior abdominal wall and helps prevent umbilical hernias.
