Quick Facts
The skin of penis the skin covering the body and root of the penis.
Structure and/or Key Feature(s)
The skin overlying the body of the penis is thin, highly elastic, and devoid of skin appendages, such as hair and glands. It’s relatively mobile as it is loosely attached to the underlying subcutaneous tissue and fascia of the penis. The skin overlying the glans penis is immobile due to the fact it is directly attached to the underlying tunica albuginea (Standring, 2016). A narrow dark streak or ridge runs along the midline of the urethral surface of the penis. This is known as the raphe of the penis and is continuous posteriorly with the raphe of the scrotum.
