Structure/ Morphology
The frenulum of the ileal orifice is a mucosal fold formed at the extremities of the ileal orifice, at the boundary between cecum and ascending colon.

Key Features/Anatomical Relations
The frenulum of the ileal orifice is located in the mucosa, beginning where the ileocolic and ileocecal lips of the ileal orifice merge and run laterally.
Function
It is theorized that when the cecum is distended, the frenulum is pulled taut, helping tighten the ileal orifice to prevent retrograde movement of material in the colon (Moore, Dalley and Agur, 2013).
