Key Features/Anatomical Relations

The hepatoduodenal ligament is the smaller portion of the lesser omentum. This ligament attaches from the porta hepatis of the liver to the first portion of the duodenum.

This double layer of peritoneum encases the common bile duct, hepatic artery proper, hepatic portal vein, suprapyloric lymph nodes, and the hepatic plexus of nerves.

The hepatoduodenal ligament forms the anterior boundary of the omental (epiploic foramen), the opening between the greater sac and the omental bursa (lesser sac).
