Adipose Tissue of Breast (Inferior Medial Quadrant; Left)
Panniculus adiposus mammaria
Read moreStructure/Morphology
The breast is composed of glandular tissue surrounded by adipose and ligamentous tissue derived from the superficial fascia of the anterior thoracic wall.
The adipose tissue sits between the lobes of the mammary glands of the breast and not between the lobules. In non-lactating breasts, the amount of adipose tissue (fat) surrounding the glandular elements of the breast determines their size.
