The breast is composed of glandular tissue surrounded by adipose and ligamentous tissue derived from the superficial fascia of the anterior thoracic wall.
The suspensory ligament of the breast is composed of fibrous strands of connective tissue that extends from the dermis of the skin covering the breast to the deep fascia forming the bed of the breast (Dorland, 2011).

Function
The suspensory ligaments of the breast help to support the breast. It is usually well developed in the upper half of the breast, thus preventing ptosis (or sagging).
