Description:
Description: (Location & Drainage)
Inferior mesenteric lymph nodes are a group of 8–10 nodes located along the inferior mesenteric artery. These nodes receive lymph from the left colic, sigmoid, and superior anorectal lymph nodes, which are responsible for draining the distal part of the transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, and the rectum, respectively.
The efferent vessels of the inferior mesenteric lymph nodes carry lymph to the preaortic and lateral aortic lymph nodes (part of the left lumbar lymph nodes), which empty into the intestinal trunk and left lumbar trunk, respectively (Földi et al., 2012).
