Description

The spinotransversales (spinotransverse) muscles are a group of muscles found in the superficial layer of the intrinsic muscles of the back. Overall, these muscles are involved in movements of the head and neck.

The spinotransversales muscles consist of the:

- splenius capitis;

- splenius colli.

This group of muscles is known as the “spinotransversales” because they originate from spinous processes and insert onto transverse processes of vertebrae.
