Origin

The helicis major muscle originates from the spine of the helix on the lateral surface of the auricle.

Insertion

The helicis major muscle consists of a thin vertically orientated band of muscle fibers and inserts into the anterior border of the helix on the lateral surface of the auricle.

Actions

In the human ear, the helicis major muscle may be capable of drawing the auricle forwards and upwards. However, it is rare that individuals can modify the shape and position of their external ears (Standring, 2016).
