Structure/Morphology
The lingual septum is a vertical layer of fibrous tissue located within the tongue. It is denser posteroinferiorly and tapers off as it reaches the tip and dorsum of the tongue (Netter, 2011; Standring, 2016).
Anatomical Relations
The lingual septum is located in the midline of the tongue.
Function
The lingual septum acts as the attachment point for the transverse muscles of the tongue.
