
Deep Gluteal Muscles (Left) Description
The deep gluteal muscles are one of two subgroups of muscles of the gluteal region, the other being the superficial gluteal muscles. Overall, these muscles mainly act to:
- abduct the thigh at the hip joint;
- laterally rotate the thigh at the hip joint.
The deep gluteal muscles consist of the:
- gemelli;
- obturator internus;
- piriformis;
- quadratus femoris.
