Description

The lumbricals are a group of muscles in the second layer of muscles of the plantar part of the foot. Overall, these muscles mainly act to simultaneously flex the metatarsophalangeal joints and extend the interphalangeal joints of the second, third, fourth, and little toes. There are four lumbrical muscles in the foot and, from medial to lateral, they are numbered one to four.
