Description

The third layer is one of the four muscle layers of the plantar part of the foot. Overall, the muscles in this layer mainly act to:

- flex the great and little toes at their metatarsophalangeal joints;

- adduct the great toe at its metatarsophalangeal joint.

The third layer of muscles of the plantar part of the foot consists of the:

- flexor hallucis brevis;

- adductor hallucis;

- flexor digiti minimi of foot.
