Description

The suprahyoid muscles are components of the anterior triangle of the neck and are located superior to the hyoid bone. There are four suprahyoid muscles:

- digastric muscle;

- stylohyoid muscle;

- mylohyoid muscle;

- geniohyoid muscle.

The main action of the suprahyoid muscles is to raise the hyoid bone. Additionally, some muscles may also move the mandible. Both of these actions are required in mastication, swallow, and speech.
