Description

The levator ani muscle is one of the two muscles of the pelvic diaphragm, the other being the ischiococcygeus. It forms a large part of the pelvic diaphragm, which supports the pelvic organs. The levator ani muscle is a combined term for three muscles, these are the:

- iliococcygeus;

- pubococcygeus;

- puboanalis.

The levator ani muscle can be arbitrarily divided, by the midline of the body, into right and left halves.
