Description

The muscles of the anal triangle are one of the two groups of perineal muscles, the other being the muscles of the urogenital triangle. They assist with fecal continence. The anal triangle itself is defined:

- anteriorly, by an arbitrary line that extends between the right and left ischial tuberosities;

- laterally, by the right and left sacrotuberous ligaments.

The muscles of the anal triangle consist of those that form the external anal sphincter.
