Quick Facts

This is one of two small, round protrusions of the inferior part of the hypothalamus that forms part of the limbic system. It receives hippocampal fibers from the fornix and projects them to the anterior thalamic nuclei and into the tegmentum. It processes and helps to recall memories, especially smells. The mammillary body is also involved in emotions, behavior and the recognition of sensations.
