Description

The anterior (ventral) rami of the lumbar nerves are anterior branches of the first to fifth lumbar nerves. They are one of two terminal branches of these spinal nerves, the other being the posterior (dorsal) rami. The anterior rami contribute to the formation of lumbar plexus inside the psoas major muscle. The lumbosacral trunk is formed from the lower anterior rami of lumbar nerves. The sacral plexus is formed in the lateral pelvic wall by the lumbosacral plexus. The branches of the lumbosacral plexus provide motor and sensory innervation to structures in the pelvic region and lower limb.
