Description

The anterior rami of the sacral nerves are anterior branches of the first to fifth sacral nerves (S1—S5). They are one of two terminal branches of these spinal nerves, the other being the posterior (dorsal) rami.

The anterior rami of first to third sacral nerve (S1—S3) and part of the fourth lumbar nerve (S4), along with the lumbosacral trunk (L4—L5) contribute to the formation of sacral plexus. The plexus is situated in the lateral pelvic wall and its branches provide motor and sensory innervation to structures in the pelvic region.

The remaining part of the fourth sacral nerve combines with the fifth sacral nerve and the coccygeal nerve (Co) to form the coccygeal plexus.
