Description
Several autonomic plexuses are found in the thorax, abdomen, and pelvis. These are weblike collections of autonomic nerve axons (sympathetic and parasympathetic), which usually accompanying blood vessels to their target organs.
—The major thoracic plexuses serve the lungs, esophagus, and heart.
—The abdominal plexuses serve the tissues of the digestive tract and accessory gastrointestinal organs.
—The pelvic plexuses functionally serve the tissues of the middle rectum, pelvic viscera, bladder, and reproductive organs.
