Supply: Dorsal skin of foot and lateral three toes.
Related parts of the anatomy
Origin
After the superficial fibular nerve pierces the deep fascia of the leg, it divides into the medial and intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerves.
Course
The intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve travels distally, superficial to the extensor retinaculum, along the lateral side of the ankle and the lateral third of the dorsum of the foot towards the third, fourth, and fifth digits.
Branches
The intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve gives rise to the dorsal digital nerves of the foot.
Supplied Structures
The intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve provides sensory innervation to the dorsolateral surface of foot and ankle, the third and fourth interosseous spaces and dorsal surfaces of digits third, fourth, and fifth toes.
