Perineal Branches of Posterior Femoral Cutaneous Nerve (Right)
Rami perineales nervi cutanei posterioris femoris
Read moreQuick Facts
Origin: Perineal branches arise as one of three cutaneous branches of the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve of the thigh.
Course: Once the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve passes through the greater sciatic foramen, underneath the piriformis to enter the pelvic cavity, it gives off a perineal branch.
Branches: No branches.
Supply: Skin of the posterior part of the scrotum or labium majus.
Origin
Perineal branches arise as one of three cutaneous branches of the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve of the thigh.
Course
The posterior femoral cutaneous nerve of the thigh passes through the greater sciatic foramen underneath the piriformis muscle, to enter the pelvic cavity. Before it descends underneath the gluteus maximus and fascia latae, it gives off a perineal branch. This advances medially between the gracilis muscle and the overlying fascia latae to supply cutaneous innervation to the posterior part of the scrotum (males) or labium majus (females).
Branches
The perineal nerve is a sensory cutaneous branch of the posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh and innervates the perineal region.
Supplied Structures
Sensory to the posterior part of the scrotum or labium majus.
