Description
The phrenic ganglia are variably present, more commonly seen near the right crus of the diaphragm and only occasionally seen by the left crus of the diaphragm (Loukas et al., 2016). The phrenic nerve superiorly and the celiac and aorticorenal plexuses inferiorly connect to the phrenic ganglia.
Neurons in the phrenic ganglia are sympathetic and are believed to innervate vasculature and tissue of the suprarenal glands and the diaphragm (Standring, 2016; Tubbs et al., 2008).
