Spinal Ganglia of Cervical Nerves (Left)
Ganglia spinale nervorum cervicalium
Read moreQuick Facts
The spinal ganglia of the cervical nerves are sensory ganglia found at the proximal end of the posterior root of each spinal nerve.
They each contain the cell bodies of afferent nerve fibers, which themselves convey either somatic sensory signals (such as touch, temperature and pain) from the body to the central nervous system or visceral sensory signals (primarily pain).
Afferent neurons of the spinal ganglia are derived from the neural crest and are primarily pseudounipolar. Their axons carry information from sense receptors in the periphery and terminate in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord.
