The spinal ganglion of the third lumbar nerve is the swelling of the posterior root of the third lumbar nerve. It is located just medial to the union of the anterior and posterior roots, and is generally in, or just lateral, to the intervertebral foramen below the third lumbar vertebra.
This ganglion contains cell bodies of the somatic or autonomic sensory afferents. It carries information towards the spinal cord from the skin of the medial thigh and knee.
