Origin
The superficial temporal branches of the auriculotemporal nerve represent the terminal continuation of the auriculotemporal nerve.
Its sensory fibers have cell bodies located in the trigeminal ganglion.
Course
The superficial temporal branches of the auriculotemporal nerve run from their origin roughly anterior to the external acoustic meatus superiorly. They join with the superficial temporal artery and vein on the surface of the temporalis fascia and run superiorly along the anterior edge of the ear, in the posterior temporal fossa, and towards the apex of the skull.
Branches
There are no named branches.
Supplied Structures
The superficial temporal branches of the auriculotemporal nerve are sensory nerves. They convey general sense information from the skin of the posterior temple.
