Structure
The bronchus intermedius is simply a continuation of the right main bronchus, distal to the origin of the superior lobar bronchus. It quickly gives rise to the middle and inferior lobar bronchi, which supply middle and inferior lobes of the right lung, respectively. Additionally, a subsuperior (or subapical) segmental bronchus may arise from the bronchus intermedius or the right inferior lobar bronchus, just below the origin of the superior segmental bronchus. This bronchus is distributed between the superior and posterior basal bronchopulmonary segments (Standring, 2016).
