Structure/Morphology

The laryngeal ventricle is a small evagination of the mucosa between the vocal and vestibular folds. There is a narrow opening on the lateral aspect of the ventricle. This leads to saccule, which is a small region containing up to 70 mucous glands.

Function

The function of the mucosal glands in the laryngeal ventricle is to lubricate the mucosa of the vocal folds to protect them from dehydration and infection.
