Description

The acetabular margin (border or rim) is the prominent edge surrounding the acetabulum.

It is the site of attachment for the fibrocartilaginous acetabular labrum, which serves to deepen the cavity that the acetabulum provides for the head of femur in order to reinforce the hip joint.

The acetabular margin has an inferiorly located gap, known as the acetabular notch, which allows for the passage of nerves and vessels into the hip joint.
