Description

The anterior border of ilium is the anteriorly located margin of the bone. It extends from the anterior superior iliac spine to the acetabulum. It is one of the three borders of the ilium, the other two being the posterior and medial borders, and it separates the iliac fossa from the gluteal surface of ilium. It begins inferior to the anterior superior iliac spine, where it forms a notch, followed by a blunt process, known as the anterior inferior iliac spine, before ending at the acetabular margin.

The anterior border of ilium provides origin sites for the rectus femoris and sartorius muscles, as well as an attachment site for the iliofemoral ligament.
