Description

The anterior intercondylar area (anterior intercondylar fossa or anterior intercondyloid fossa) is the anteriorly located, non-articular part of the region that is found between the articular facets of the medial and lateral condyles of the tibia. It is separated from the posterior intercondylar area by the intercondylar eminence.

The anterior intercondylar area provides attachment sites for the anterior cruciate ligament and the anterior horns of both the medial and lateral menisci.
