Read moreDescription
The base is the expanded proximal end of the distal phalanx of the little finger. It is the proximal continuation of its body and contains an articular facet, which articulates with the distal articular facet of the middle phalanx of the little finger, forming the distal interphalangeal joint of the little finger.
The base of the distal phalanx of the little finger provides insertion sites for the:
—flexor digitorum profundus muscle;
—extensor digitorum muscle;
—extensor digiti minimi muscle.
It also provides attachment sites for the collateral and palmar ligaments of the distal interphalangeal joint of the little finger.
