Description
The base of first metacarpal bone is the expanded, saddle-shaped, proximal end of the bone. It is the proximal continuation of its body, contains a proximal articular facet, and provides an insertion site for the abductor pollicis longus muscle. It also provides attachment sites for the palmar and dorsal metacarpal ligaments.
