Description

The base of first metatarsal bone is the expanded, cube-like, proximal end of the bone. It is the proximal continuation of its body and contains a proximal articular facet and a tuberosity.

The base of first metatarsal bone provides insertion sites for the fibularis longus and tibialis anterior muscles. It also provides attachment sites for the metatarsal ligaments, and the dorsal and plantar tarsometatarsal ligaments.
