The base of fourth metacarpal bone is the expanded, cube-like, proximal end of the bone. It is the proximal continuation of its body and contains the:
—proximal articular facet of fourth metacarpal bone;
—capitate articular facet of fourth metacarpal bone;
—third metacarpal articular facet of fourth metacarpal bone;
—fifth metacarpal articular facet of fourth metacarpal bone.
The base of fourth metacarpal bone provides attachment sites for the:
—palmar metacarpal ligaments;
—dorsal metacarpal ligaments;
—palmar carpometacarpal ligaments;
—dorsal carpometacarpal ligaments.
