Read moreDescription
The base is the expanded proximal end of the middle phalanx of second toe. It is the proximal continuation of its body and contains a proximal articular facet, which articulates with the distal articular facet of the proximal phalanx of second toe, forming the proximal interphalangeal joint of the second toe.
The base of middle phalanx of second toe provides an insertion site for the extensor digitorum brevis muscle. It also provides attachment sites for the collateral and plantar ligaments of the proximal interphalangeal joint of the second toe.
