Description

The body (shaft) of first metacarpal bone is the short, thick, tubular part of the bone. It is located between the head and base of the first metacarpal bone. It consists of medial and lateral surfaces, provides an origin site for the first dorsal interosseous muscle of hand, and an insertion site for the opponens pollicis muscle.
