Description
The carpal articular surface of radius is the smooth, concave area on the inferior aspect of the distal part of the bone. It is divided, by a ridge, into medial and lateral portions:
—the medial portion articulates with the lunate bone, and is known as the lunate articular facet of radius;
—the lateral portion articulates with the scaphoid bone and is known as the scaphoid articular facet of the radius.
Collectively, these two articulations form the radiocarpal (wrist) joint.
