Description

The distal part (end) of radius is the expanded, inferior portion of the bone. It is continuous superiorly with the body of the radius. It consists of articular and non-articular portions:

—the articular portion contains the carpal articular surface of the radius and the ulnar notch;

—the non-articular portion contains the radial styloid process, dorsal radial tubercle, and the grooves for extensor muscle tendons.

The distal part of radius articulates with the:

—ulna, forming the distal radioulnar joint;

—scaphoid and lunate bones, forming the radiocarpal (wrist) joint.
