Description

The distal part (end) of tibia is the slightly broader, inferior portion of the bone. It is continuous superiorly with the body of tibia and contains the medial malleolus and its malleolar groove.

Both its inferior articular surface and articular facet of medial malleolus articulate with the talus, contributing to the formation of the ankle joint.

The distal part of tibia also contains the fibular notch, which articulates with the distal part of fibula, forming the inferior tibiofibular joint.
