Description

The dorsal (posterior) surface is the area on the posterior aspect of the body of ischium. It is one of the three surfaces of the body of ischium, the other two being the femoral and pelvic surfaces, and it is an area that is bounded:

—anteriorly, by the lateral border of body of ischium and the acetabular margin;

—posteriorly, by the posterior border of body of ischium.

Its superior end is continuous with the gluteal surface of ilium, while its inferior end is continuous with the inferior border of ramus of ischium.

The dorsal surface of body of ischium consists of the ischial tuberosity and provides origin sites for the superior and inferior gemelli muscles.
