Description

The dorsal (superior) surface is the area on the upper aspect of the calcaneus. It is one of the six surfaces of the calcaneus, the other five being the posterior, plantar, medial and lateral surfaces, and the cuboid articular surface.

The dorsal surface of calcaneus contains the sustentaculum tali, calcaneal sulcus, and the anterior, middle, and posterior talar facets. It provides an origin site for the extensor digitorum brevis muscle, and attachment sites for the bifurcate, dorsal calcaneocuboid and talocalcaneal interosseous ligaments.
