Description

The gluteal tuberosity is the broad, rough margin located along the upper posterolateral aspect of the body of femur. It is the superior continuation of the lateral lip of linea aspera, extends in a superolateral direction to the greater trochanter, and separates the posterior and lateral surfaces of femur.

The gluteal tuberosity provides insertion sites for the gluteus maximus and adductor magnus muscles.
